Google Pixel 3: The best display smartphone
Pixel 2 XL is best suited for outdoor use as it offers the maximum brightness of its screen, according to measurements, it reaches 438 nits, while the brightness of the Pixel 2 display does not exceed 346 nits. Galaxy S8 at one time showed 437 nits, and the average brightness of the screens of modern smartphones is 433 nits. And, now it seems like Google is going to raise the bar with the launch of Google Pixel 3.
As in Galaxy S8 and Note 8, in Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL a scheme of permanently switched screens is realized, to which time and notifications are displayed. However, the creators of Pixel went further and added the function Now Playing, which is able to recognize the music playing alongside and automatically display the track name and artist name. This is indeed a pro of the device, and it will be carry forward in the next Google Pixel as well.
If you are interested in music, then you can double-click on the notification (in Pixel 2) to learn more about it or play it on your smartphone. Now Playing function works for a long time, 30 seconds or more, but it does not pretend to replace Shazam, it’s rather a pleasant surprise.
Cameras of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are able to take great pictures, but this is not the most important photo card of these devices. We mean Google Lens, an object recognition technology built into the Camera application and Google Photos. Thanks to Google Lens, Pixel 2 is able to easily recognize the sights – for example, Flatiron Building in New York. The Google Lens did not recognize the sign of Dough, a donut premium class. There should be slight improvements in the next Google Pixel 3, so we could have better results. Google Lens copes quite well with the recognition of information on business cards: the phone easily identified the email address and phone number.
After a while, the Google Lens application will be available for other smartphones on Android, but for now this is exclusive for Pixel. There is another new function of the camera, which we did not have time to test – AR-stickers. This element of augmented reality allows you to put characters from movies and TV shows such as “Very strange cases” or “Star Wars” directly to your photos. The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have single-lens 12-megapixel main cameras, so you might think that they are inferior to the fashionable dual cameras. This is not true. New smart phones are smart enough to support the portrait mode (bokeh effect) by software, including for the front 8-megapixel cameras.
The next Google Pixel is going to bring so many interesting features, and it will definitely start with a better display, and may be a full view display just like other high-end smartphone of the market, but we can bet Google still need time to climb on the wall of most high-end smartphones. But who knows if it beats the iPhone X 2018 version with Google Pixel 3?
